64. Chinchilla feeding guide
Chinchillas are cute and adorable pets that are fun to play with. They are nice additions to every home.
Basically, chinchillas thrive on pellets. These pellets are specially made for the consumption and dietary needs of the chinchilla. They must be fed in small amounts. They have a great digestive system for desert grasses. However, foods that are high in protein and fats may cause difficulty in your chinchilla’s digestion.
Chinchilla mixes can also be fed but must be served with caution. Some mixes may contain those that are not recommended for chinchillas when given in large servings. For example, some feeds have raisins in it. Instead of consuming the high-fiber grains, they will only eat the raisins. With continuous feeding habit, the chinchilla may end up undernourished.

You can also give your chinchilla a treat once in a while. A slice of apple or a few pieces or raisins will certainly be enjoyed by your pet.
Also remember that it is important to provide water to hydrate your chinchilla. Do not place a bowl inside its cage. The chinchilla may run over the water and will consume it later on which is not considered as hygienic. It’s best that the water be kept outside the cage through a bottle with a tube inserted for easy access.
Anent the amount of food you feed your chinchilla, it is recommended that only small portions are given. Chinchillas have the tendency to overfeed themselves. Unhealthy chinchillas are prone to diarrhea and diabetes.
