finch feeding guide

Finches are small and attractive birds that are best kept as pets. They are easy to maintain and feeding it does not require much preparations.
There are four types of food that you can feed to your finch.
The first one is the high quality finch seed mix. These are the feeds that are sold commercially. It is a mixture of selected seeds which supplies the nutritional needs of your finch.

The second one is the formulated commercial pellets and mash diets. These are pellets that are enriched with nutrients that will sustain the diet of your finch. The formulated commercial pellets and high quality finch seed mix are easier and more practicable compared to the next two. However, you must be careful in selecting such because these mixes vary depending on the age and specie of the bird.
The third one is the fruits and vegetables. Feed your finch with fresh fruits and vegetables. Cut them into small pieces for better consumption. Make sure that you wash the fruits and vegetables first.
Seeds are the fourth option in feeding your finch. However, you must be careful in feeding seeds. There are varieties of seeds that are high fat. Store the seeds properly and away from moisture.
Water is always indispensible. Make sure that your bird has access to fresh water inside its cage. Change the water as often as possible. Any contaminated water taken by your finch may result to illnesses. Also make sure to clean the plate containing the water.
